Why We're
Built
Different.
Different by design, and meant to be.
Editor's Note: This is part of Somnus Explained, a series describing who we are, what we make, and the principles that guide our work.
By this point in the series you have read the misconception and the AI position. This piece of the identity is the easiest one to wave at and the hardest one to earn: that we are different from the companies usually described next to us, and that the difference is the design rather than the marketing.
What follows is the shape of it.
How we think about the company we are building
The companies our work is usually compared to ship a device into a market and measure their success by the units that move. We are building a closed-loop data network for upper airway dysfunction. The devices are how that network touches the patient. The network is the company.
That is a different shape. It commits the company to a different timeline, a different kind of moat, and a different relationship with the patients on the other side of the loop.
How we think about staying close
We stay lean. We stay close to patients and providers. We own the loop. Those three commitments come from the founder and they shape the rest. The rule we have set ourselves is not to become a company in which care decisions are made by people who have never met a patient.
Closeness is a discipline. It is also how the loop keeps improving over time. The two are the same thing, viewed from different angles.
How we think about taking our time
We are working in a regulated category, and we are deliberate about the cadence. We do the work that regulation asks of us when it asks. We do not promise hard dates we have not earned the right to publish. We say plainly what is settled and plainly what is not.
That tempo is not a failure of urgency. It is how an infrastructure layer in healthcare gets built in a way that actually holds.
How we think about the long position
The long-term value is the connected network. We pay attention to what happens after therapy, not just before it. That only works if the loop is one connected system, and one connected system does not exist in this market today.
We are building it. That is the long position, and it is the reason the company is shaped the way it is.
A note on the long view
This is the long game by design. Build the loop. Stay close. Earn the trust. Let the network compound.
